“Would you believe that big Barramundi (Apahap/Vulgan) are back in Manila bay and their estuaries? One angler caught 13.5kilos of this monster at Sangley Point, Cavite in December 2007 while throwing spoons. And submitted a photo at Fishing Buddy to brag his catch. ![]()
Some envious fishermen said that it was only an old and dying Barra who wanted to retire. But the following week another angler submitted a cellphone pic of the 6.2 kilograms Barra caught at Del Pan Bridge!??, Binondo, Manila. Later the same guy also showed another 7.6Kg of Barra also caught at Del Pan Bridge in February of this year!
But here is a clearer photo of another 6 Kilos Barra caught by Peter Tan on March 15, 2008 at Kapitan Larry’s Pond, Coloong 2, Valenzuela, Bulacan. An estuary of Manila Bay. Just 18.6kms from Fishing Buddy (N 140˚ 33.894’ E˚ 120 59.159’). Kapitan Larry’s Pond is located N 14˚ 43.640’ E120˚ 56.818. And he was not the only one who caught these monster Barra. 3 anglers have caught similar sizes on the same day.
Another lucky guy Noel Pardinas called up yesterday (March 28, 2008) to report that he had just caught another 8 kilos Monster Barra.
This monster Barra are now hot at Kapitan Larry. So get your moderate fast taper medium heavy rods and size 4000 reels and try your luck!
P.S. Tip. The hottest lure is the Strike Pro Dancer. Its erratic and suspending action excites the barras to hit the lures.”

Nice catch! We also caught that day March 15,2008(about 12:30 in the afternoon), 8 kilos barramundi/Apahap. We are about to go home that time when Freddie shout at us and when I looked at him he smiled at me and excitingly bragged" Sam mas malaki to!. This is the third time we caught an Apahap at Kapitan Larry's fispond. First on last January 5, a 3 kilogram size, 2nd was a 5 kilo in size... Kap Larry gave us a discount and we paid only 1.5K for 8 kilos Apahap. Visit our blogs at this link: http://www.bangispinoy.blogspot.com/

The fish species was also reported caught at the port area MICT (Manila International Container Terminal. I wonder if there are apahap at the Luneta Park seawall or along the Manila outer breakwater?
